Assessments are how we keep track of student learning and report to the State and Federal Governments on how schools are performing. Listed below are the primary assessments our school uses for these purposes. Go to the Minnesota Report Card to see results for our school, state results, or any other school in the state.
MCA – Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment – required by the state of Minnesota to hold schools accountable. The state is required by the federal government to assess students in math and reading in grades 3-8, plus reading in 10th grade and math in 11th grade. Assessments are held once per year in the spring. The data collected is used by teachers and district leaders to help guide instruction and better support students. For more information, please visit the link that is hyperlinked above.
CCS offers the Late Spring ACT assessment for 11th and 12th graders who wish to participate. Participation is optional as these scores are used for college entrance requirements. For more information on ACTs, please visit their website linked here.
Universal Screening means using brief, grade-level, reliable and valid assessments multiple times per year to identify students who may be at-risk for poor learning outcomes and identify Tier 1 (classroom) instructional needs. These assessments are quick, efficient, valid, and reliable and help staff identify whether and to what extent a problem may be occurring for a specific learner.
Screening students three times a year is like getting a temperature at the doctor to see how things are going throughout the school year. Staff use this date to evaluate current skills of their students, predict future growth achievement, and assess learning growth.
All schools in the state of Minnesota are required to administer a screener to all students in grades K-3rd grade for reading, under the Minnesota READ Act, three times a year; fall, winter, and spring. The state of Minnesota approved two screener programs to be used. CCS chose to use FastBridge.
To be in compliance with our authorizer, Osprey Wilds, we are required to screen students for reading and math in grades K-12th. For more information on Universal Screening with FastBridge, please click the link here.
FASTBridge SAEBRS and mySABERS is administered three times, fall, winter, and spring, to be incompliance with the state of Minnesota.
